Featured Ingredient: Tranexamic Acid

Probably one of the more 'unknown' skin lightening ingredients out there, tranexamic acid is featured in very few products. It is proven to inhibit UV induced hyperpigmentation and melanocyte activity (lighten skin) particularily in people with melasma or dark spots.

In the studies I have read, the pigment suprressing abilities of tranxemic acid seem to only work (or work best) on localized areas of irregular melanin distribution (for example, it works at treating a melasma patch around the mouth as opposed to actually lightening the overall skin tone, even if applied all over). The reason for this is because tranxemic acid acts against 'stimuli'. Any external (or internal) stimuli that causes abnormal or excessive melanin production is what tranexamic acid inhibits.

Tranexamic acid is ideal for people with melasma or have stubborn dark spots that aren't responding to other skin lightening ingredients. It will not lighten the overall skin), but will treat localized regions that have hyperpigmentation, UV induced pigmentation (sun damage) or irregular melanin distribution (melasma patches).

"Tranexamic acid prevents the binding of plasminogen originating from endothelial cells, to keratinocytes, which is thought to be a possible mechanism for melasma treatment"

Recommended Products that contain Tranexamic Acid:

Shiseido Haku Melanofocus EX Whitening Essence

UNT Tranexamic Acid Depigmenting Essence

UNT Ex-White Body Lotion

DermaSurface Bright Brightening Complex

I will continue to update this post as I discover more products that have tranexamic acid. As usual check back often and every Tuesday morning for the next featured ingredient.

I tried every topical medication including laser treatment. Nothing worked for me but tranexamic acid. I took it 250 mg twice a day while I was in Japan. It really worked but bounced back after couple of month once I stopped taking it.

Wow! That's very interesting to hear.

At least you got resutls with it. I think the UNT EX White 2 is a solid skin lightener. 3% tranexamic acid has been proven to do something! So I think it's pretty good.

Yeah, everytime you stop using something the benefits stop as well. Like every vitamin, supplementation, or medication out there - skin lightening works the same. You got love what you use so you can maintain using it. ;)
