Product Review - Neostrata Skin Brightener

Neostrata has great products. Their Skin Brightener contains 20% pure Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid). It is advertised as a radiance treatment product for the face, neck and decollete.The product comes in a 30 mL tube with a pop on/off cap and pump dispenser to keep the Vitamin C inside fresh and stable. The directions state to use on slightly damp skin. It is important not to *rub* the product in. Just glide it gently on your skin.

It is a silicone based C serum, that smooths on quickly. Especially on damp skin it will literally just disappear in your skin. You only need a pea, so what I did was just dab little micro-dots on my forehead, cheeks, sides, nose and chin quickly and smooth on. Obviously this is done right after cleansing in the morning. The key is that your skin shouldn't be completley dripping wet when you apply this - just damp.

You don't have to apply this on wet skin, but let me warn you that the product is VERY strong. When I tried it on dry skin, I had a lot of redness on my face. My skin burned and itched. Another tip is to pump out a pea sized amount of the product on your fingertip, put a drop of water and then quickly smooth onto your face.

The important thing is: this product works! It is a great antioxidant (neutralizes free radicals) and definitley brightens the skin. This product faded all the stubborn freckles I had on my cheekbones in a span of 4 weeks with daily usage. It definitley lightens - but just don't expect extreme results like 5 or 6 shades. It will reverse sun damage, build collagen and give you a vibrant, luminous look. I really like this. Make sure to wear sunscreen on top!

can it lighten skin by 2 shades?

If the majority of your lightening is for sun damage, then yes. The AHAs and botanical lighteners together can together lighten and even out 2 shades.

If it's going beyond your natural color...it could happen but I find this brightener to be more of half a shade or 1 shade type product. More mild than others but it does give results.

Unfortunately I don't have this product with me right now, so I don't have the exact ingredient list on me. BUT I know it is rich in silicones - very few ingredients (probably 3-4 in total) outside of a few 'cones' and l-ascorbic acid.

I used to have the bottled in my closet even after I finished it, with my intention of posting the ingredients but I never got around to doing it. =(

It's an amazing vitamin c serum, I just wish it wasn't so expensive! It has a very small ingredient list which is always great since there is a small chance of potentially problematic ingredients. Obviously if you know your skin doesn't like silicones (dimethicone etc.) then it's probably not for you. But most people can tolerate them so it makes it usable for pretty much all skin types except highly reactive. =)
