Product Review - Bioderma White Objective Active Lightening Day Cream SPF 27

Bioderma White Objective Active Day Lightening Cream SPF 27 is an average skin lightening sunscreen. Recently I've found, since it is winter, that my skin needs some extra hydration during the day. The sunscreen that I currently use - Sofina Perfect UV Lucent (which is awesome, and is really matte on my oily skin) is starting to dry me out. I'm thinking (though I'm not entirely sure yet) of making the switch to the Bioderma White Objective SPF 27 Lightening Day Cream for the winter, and using it on days where I am indoors and won't be going out.

I used this sunscreen back in the summer of '07. It combines the patented skin whitening W.O. complex (plant based lightening extracts, and niacinamide) with a stable (yet minimally effective) form of Vitamin C.  It is photostable, and has pretty low UVA and UVB protection, but it's fine enough for winter when the UV Index is generally very low (around 2-4) even during noon.

The entire Bioderma White Objective line is quite impressive. The day lightening cream doesn't contain any AHAs like the night serum, however does have botanical lightening extracts as well as niacinamide (vitamin B3). Bioderma claims it targets the root of melanin creation by utilizing potent botanical skin lighteners, mild antioxidants and stable sun protection.

It has a light-weight texture that doesn't leave any white cast, however when I used it in the summer time, I found my very oily skin got a bit shiny in the T-zone. Looking back, I remember I didn't really do much in terms of oil control (using blotting papers). Now, I think this fantastic sunscreen is ideal for the colder, drier months since my skin needs extra moisture.

It didn't give me any breakouts, and I only used a trial size version off of ebay so I didn't get a chance to see if the product brightened or lightened my complexion in any way (not that I expect a major lightening effect, since the Bioderma White Objective Night Serum is more concentrated and designed for deeper skin lightening), but I sure did love using it. There's something great about using a sunscreen that combines some form of Vitamin C and skin lighteners. I felt like I was being more efficient, by targeting 2 things at once (skin lightening and sun protection). I do wish it had better sun protection, it is very minimal but it's enough to provide some protection (better than none).

Bioderma White Objective is fragrance-free, hypallergenic, oil-free and comes in a 30mL pump bottle. I got mine off of ebay (which is the ultimate place to get Bioderma products for decent prices). Have you tried the olay White radiance SPF 30? I'm using it now and loving it. It's an Asia-exclusive line from Olay but easily found on ebay. The sunscreen has a broadscreen stable SPF of 30, a ppd of about 4 and (the best bit) a 4% concentration of niacinamide! I think it also contains a few other brighteners like kojic acid and MAP but I don't have the box to hand. Anyway I've been using this during the winter and when I'm indoors and love it! I have oily skin too and the finish is slightly moisturising but not too much. Had to ditch my sofina for the winter because it was drying up the area around my mouth terribly (side effect from differin). Anyway you should give it a whirl, I really like it!

Wow, thanks for the recommendation! I've never really looked into Olay's White Radiance line before. It sounds great.

I'm having the same problem with my Sofina right now, it's great I love it throughout the year except for winter. It's so cold here, and my mouth area is getting dried out. Gah!

I think this might be my next purchase. The UV index here in Toronto, Canada is very low, so I can go with a sunscreen with a PPD of at least 4-6 out just walking to and from my car.

Thank you D.

No problem! I live in London so we have a similar level of UV.

I love the Olay line for its high concentration of niacinamide, I also use a Regenerist toner with 4% niacinamide that I picked up in Japan (which is similar to the Western 'Age Defying' toner I think). I just pour it into a spray bottle and spritz onto my face before my morning/night treatments.

Oh and have you tried Skinactives brightening cream? It's my favourite night cream (MAP, Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Melatonin and Licorice extract). I had them add 2% copper peptide to it and after a month of use with Differin I have - save for two acne scars on my cheek - a completely even skin tone. The other products I used got it almost even but the skinactives pushed it over the edge.

I now use Skinactives at night and have fun with trying different brightening creams/serums during the day under my sunscreen; now that I have an even tone i'm looking to lighten my skin by two or three shades.

Love the blog by the way - it's one of the first things I check in the morning! Keep up the good work :D
