Make Sure You're Getting Enough Vitamin D

This post is going to be a lot different than the other ones, but I feel it's something that must be stated and in a way is tied with skin lightening. In this day and age, most people just aren't getting enough Vitamin D. Either through a poor diet or not taking supplements, but Vitamin D is incredibly crucial for good health.

I really stress this because now that we are deep into cold and flu season, we need to make our bodies strong and healthy. Studies have shown that low levels of Vitamin D can cause negative, and sometimes life threatening reactions to flu shots. Low levels of Vitamin D make the body more vulnerable to infections. Not to mention how it's been linked to auto-immune disorders, cancer, mental health issues and in pregnant women - autisim, learning disabilities for infants.

Being on a skin lightening regimen means wearing sunscreen everyday. The sun, to an extent helps to stimulate Vitamin D within the body. Sunscreen inhibits the sun's ability to create this, so in order to compensate, please, please make sure you are taking a vitamin supplement that has the recommended amount of Vitamin D3 (correct form).

The recommended dosage is 1000 IU per 25 lbs body weight.

It's best to know where you stand. Go to your doctor and get a blood test to show your Vitamin D levels. You may be shocked. Follow any specific dosage they say is best for you (I am not a doctor, but I follow the formula of 1000 IU per 25 lbs of body weight and my D level is now normal).

It's winter, the sun is rarely out anyway, so people not even wearing sunscreen everyday need to be getting enough Vitamin D. And just for the record, no, I do not believe that one should go out into the sun with unprotected skin to acquire Vitamin D. The sun doesn't give much anyway, you are much better off with consuming fresh healthy foods that have Vitamin D and ofcourse a supplement.

Stay safe, and be healthy everyone!
