At-Home Acne Mark Fading Mask

This concoction is really popular, but only recently have I been using it and understanding why so many people love it. I've already talked about the Yogurt Mask, and how it can suffice as a great lactic acid treatment (exfoliation, instant skin brightening, fading of dark spots over time etc.) but this one has a little more of a punch to it. If you are interested in an inexpensive way to get good exfoliation, some skin lightening and brightening, and a way to get clearer skin all at the same time - this at-home pore cleansing + lactic acid treatment is definitley worth trying.

I use a lot of treatments (peels, masks) but I like DIY ones since they do not cost much and it's fun to make them, and add things to them. With this particular DIY treatment, the results I see are instant. My skin looks SO incredibly even, bright, luminous and silky smooth. I've mentioned how the texture of our skin (the eveness of texture specifically) contributes to the way light reflects our skin in Achieving Luminous Skin & Microcirculation, and this treatment definitley helps with this. If you have acne marks, red or dark in color, discolorations or blotchy skin, this can do wonders for you. Also, if you have acne this mask will clean up your pores and help with the penetration of your other products.

Essentially it is just a regular yogurt mask with aspirin tablets. Most of us have heard of the aspirin mask - it's one of the most popular do-it-yourself acne treatments out there. And, well...it works too, which is awesome. But combined with yogurt, the two can definitley play a role in lightening and brightening up your skin. Trust me, I can vouche for that. Plus it does wonders at keeping my pores extra clean, especially during the TOTM, when my skin can be most unpredictable.

The yogurt has a pure form of lactic acid in it, which not only gently exfoliates skin cells, but has mild melanin inhibiting effects. The aspirin tablets exfoliate and smooth out the skin resulting in a radiant, even complexion.

Anyway, all you need:

- 1 tablespoon of full-fat, organic yogurt (it doesn't have to be organic, any plain yogurt will do)

- 1/4 of teaspoon of dissolved aspirin tablets (make sure it is uncoated aspirin. Use 1 or 2 teaspoons of water to dissolve the tablets. It should dissolve almost completley. Some tiny granules may be there, that is perfectly fine)

- Mix the 1/4 teaspoon of dissolved aspiring tablets with the 1 tablespoon of full-fat yogurt.

- Make sure you are applying to clean, bare skin for 10 minutes

- Rinse off thoroughly.

If the mixture has the granules/crumbles from the aspirin, don't scrub them into your skin.

Expect to see a brighter complexion, smoother skin and overtime a reduction of acne and acne marks Don't use a retinoid or strong AHA product afterwards as your skin is already freshly exfoliated and can get irritated. A skin lightener would be ideal, or any serum/moisturizer on hand is a great follow up to this.

;)

Thank you for that link =)

I've read about the concerns involving aspirin usage, but a few times a month as a treatment shouldn't be of major concern.

I usually put a lot more caution to hydroquinone, monobenzone or just recently, oxybenzone.

But thank you for posting it.

Uncoated aspirin. generic store brands of uncoated aspirin and Bayer are the same as well. The active ingredient is acetylsalicylic acid. ;)

Hi,

Yes it is possible to be allergic to Vitamin C and all it's various derivative forms. Allergic reactions can take the form of rashes, flushing and whiteheads (very common).

L-ascorbic acid is naturally kind of irritating, it's tricky trying to find a way to tolerate it (I usually advocate every other day application of it).

I believe the Vivite is fine though. L-ascorbic acid (found in LRP and most C serums)is the most biggest trigger for allergic reactions. If you have the Vivite (already purchased it) I suggest trying it since it contains a very small amount of magnesium ascorbyl phosphate (synthetic form). I'm sure the amount if enough even 1% since is it so low on the ingredient list.

Let me know how it works. Hopefully no allergic reactions with it.

Hi Sweet P!

Sorry I didn't approve your comment sooner, gmail was having some glitches =P

I made a blog article on that specific peel (which I use every month and LOVE! My fav. AHA treatment). In the comments sections below in that article I answered some questions by first time users. I detailed how to use it step by step and some of the precautions etc.

hey mileena,

how are you? i started to use the dr. elaine's at nite with chroma bright it also has c in it, can i put my retin a on top of something that has vitamin c in it? thank you.

Hi! I'm doing well ;)

You can use Vitamin c and retinoids together, but to avoid potential irritation apply the Dr. Elaine's first *wait 20 minutes for absorption and pH balance* and apply Retin-A gel on top.

This is just to avoid irritation since retinoids + C together can sometimes cause redness etc. The 20 minute wait can definitley help things out. =)

Well, botanical skin lightening ingredients all have to an extent some antioxidant properties.

DHC Acerola (not technically a vitamin c product) uses anitoxidant effects from acerolas to brighten skin/plump up skin.

if you really want to distance yourself from Vitamin C and all it's various forms and extracts, look into green tea. Here is an article I did on it with recommended products:

Hi Mileena

I am planning on buying Bioderma White Objective night care serum..i visited their website but somehow i couldnt locate how to purchase the product...so had to opt for other websites but not sure abt the authenticity of these websites ..there is one omorfiashop.com i am not sure if i can trust this website ..is there any other website i can buy this product from?

1) I want to use a AHA product u recommended M2 Refinish... can i use this with bioderma?..i also use retina -0.05% cream..so..it goes like this..apply M2 refinish first wait for 10 mins..top it with bioderma wait from another 20 mins and follow it by Retin-A..can i do this? I was actually thinking abt buying Paula's choice AHA leave on cream/serum, but since u recommended M2 refinish i opted for this.

Thanks.

omorfiashop.com is a reputable site. Their shipping for some reason for the Bioderma is a little dodgy. A reader e-mailed me who ordered from there and has waited about a week or two for delivery. I don't know what that is about since omorfiashop is a secure site.

It seems more difficult than ever to get a hold of the Bioderma White Objective. Ebay was usually the best bet, if nothing is there then I'm not exactly sure anymore where to get a hold of it. =( I believe it is being discontinued or has been discontinued that is why it's been so limited in stock. It's a shame since it was an awesome lightening product. Perhaps look around, if you find a site other than omorfiashop.com let me know. I'll check it out and e-mail them if they *really* actually do carry it since many of them are listed but not updated as out of stock.

As far as the AHA. Strong AHAs with retinoids can be really irritating - like M2 layered underneath Retin-A (btw no waiting time between an AHA and a retinoid, only with vitamin c and niacinamide do waiting times apply). Mandelic/malic acid are great for pigmentation issues. But they are strong just like an rx retinoid so be careful using them together.

You can try every other day application of the Retin-A, whilst using the M2. See how that goes, the M2 can also be worn during the day under your sunscreen but it tends to look a little shiny.

Hi Mileena

Thanks for the reply..i dont see a point in using Bioderma if it's/will be discontinued ( r u sure its discontinued?)..in that case the options that are left for me are Environ, Super Cp serum or Dermaline Skin Whitening Cream XL..i never heard of Dermaline...which ones do u suggest in the above?

Can i use M2 Refinish with makari day cream during AM?..i actually use Vit C topped with Makari day cream ..looks like now i need to alternate Vit C and M2 Refinish..i hate doing it cuz i am so in love with my DIY Vit C toner which i use everyday..if i want to use it during night i need apply M2 Refinish first followed by my makari or any other lightner right..

Thank You

Well, since you are already getting sufficient exfoliation from the Retin-A, the M2 is honestly purely optional. The mandelic and malic acid content does have an affect on breaking up excess/irregular pigment, but so does Retin-A (and that much more benefits as well).

I am glad you are enjoying the DIY Vitamin C (and as a toner too!). That's awesome, vitamin c is a fantastic way to brighten up your complexion, plus it builds collagen too so it's just amazing for your skin.

I would not recommend the Environ since it can be a little irritating (it irritates me a bit, when I put underneath my Retin-A). It's not hydrating at all and once applied on bare skin, really does dry it out. Anyway, I am not completley sure if the Bioderma is discontinued. I am only assuming for the lack of stock since last year it was very easy to find an online vendor who carried it.

I'll look around and post a link here if I find one. It is a great lightener, one of the best. So I'll be on the lookout.

Is dat combination found in my toner good? Well its 2-in-1 face cleanser but ill call it toner. The combi i found after aquademin, exactly d 2nd list of ingrdnts whch means it is potent haha :D help help! Ahh i almost forget, i dunno d international name for bengkoang ;)

lol Randy where have you been? I've missed your comments latley =P

This aspirin/yogurt mask isn't techincally a skin lightening mask, but since it exfoliates and has brightening/smoothing elements from the lactic acid it can produce results.

I've never heard or tried to garnier mask. Peel off maks do offer some minimal exfoliation since they are physically removing some dead skin cells off the epidermal layer. It's obviously not as deep as an AHA or BHA peel or microdermabrasion, but it can lead to a more even skin tone. Peel off masks are fun to use as well. Well, I think so. Are there any lightening ingredients in this mask?

Those active ingredients seem fairly impressive for a toner. Bengkoang is usually listed as jicama here. It's a proven all natural lightening ingredient. At 5% that is pretty good.

Licorice extract at 2-8% can inhibit tyrosinase so...I must say it looks like a good toner/cleanser to me.

;)

Hi Randy!

The Vitamin B3 mask is worth a shot. It's awesome. Have you heard of vitamin b3 (niacinamide) at home toners? They are supposedly very good. Google it online and you'll find tons of information on it.

For the DIY vitamin c serum did you use a c tablet or vitamin c crystals/powder? The crystals/powder is what's recommended so you don't have to do so much grounding (or any grounding/grinding at all). The water should dissolve most of it.

But DIY vitamin c is by the freshest form of vitamin c and it's very useful.

You don't have to wait using vitamin c and then sunscreen. No waiting time.
