Gabourey Sidibe's Skin Lightened For ELLE Magazine Cover?

There's a bit of a mini debate going on after a few journalists and media outlets got a hold of the Elle Magazine Ocotober edition. Many people are saying that the photo editing team at Elle lightened the skin color of Gabourey Sidibe.

I have my own opinions on this matter and honestly, while this blog is not really about issues like this, I think I should bring this up.

I find it amusing that some people are up in arms about this matter in the first place. Many actresses' get spray on tans or an intense bronzed look for magazine photo shoots, I don't understand why the opposite end of the spectrum is getting flack? Despite whatever opinion people have, from my eyes it looks like it was just the lighting that made her skin appear brighter. Even if Elle magazine did actually go in and lighten her skin tone deliberately, I don't see much of a problem with it. It's still very natural and true to her tone.

On a technical point of view, it should be noted that EVERYONE's skin tone somewhat alters in digital photography, especially when big bright lights are illuminated around you. I don't understand what the debate or controversy over this is and I am sure Ms. Sidibe thinks this is just ridiculous and unecessary as well.

As you stated some stars gets and sprays or what not to appear on a showing or on magazine; however, you need to realize that she wasn't the one that said she wanted to be lightening on a cover. I can understand if she told Elle Reps that she wanted to be lightening on the cover. I strongly feel that what they did was wrong and they should apologize for doing so. I like reading your blog and is thankful for the the wonderful tips but I stongly feel that you should stay away from discussing such topic and just stay to doing what you do.

This 'story' was just something I wanted to touch on since the debate over it just seemed ridiculous. I won't ever do a celeb post again, I felt odd blogging about it but I definitley wanted to just touch on the issue.
