Product Review - UNT C Clarity Ascorbic Acid Brightening Serum

It’s been nearly 5 months since I began using the UNT C Clarity Ascorbic Acid Brightening Serum and it’s about time I dished out a review for this absolutely phenomenal product. In the months that I used this serum (I just finished and I am now currently test driving a vitamin c derivative product by Environ) I found my skin to look more radiant and luminous than it ever looked.

Though the skin tone on my face and neck is ever so slightly darker than the rest of me – it is even toned. When using this brightening serum, my skin became more ‘even’ and almost air brushed looking. Like most vitamin c serums, the instant bright, glowy look is something I love. I definitely got it from the UNT – even when I didn’t have it directly applied to my skin.

The UNT C Clarity Ascorbic Acid Brightening Serum comes in a 35 ml vacuum sealed pump bottle which ensures its efficacy. It contains 20% (the strongest form that can penetrate and be used in the stratum corneum). Using a serum like this will lighten any dark spots, lighten the overall complexion, build collagen, erase fine lines and just promote an exceedingly glowing, healthy look.

The texture is a fluid that dries a bit sticky at first then feels like nothing is on your face. I really want to emphasize that it’s just a tad bit sticky. That is mainly because it has no real emollient ingredients so it doesn’t have that slick, moisturized finish. It’s definitely tolerable and you probably won’t notice it at all. The only reason why I noticed it initially was due to my past experiences with other vitamin c serums (water based or silicone based). All in all, it is very lightweight and perfect for oily or combination skin types.

I saw a visible difference in the pigmentation of my skin from the first week of usage. Daily my skin took on a glow that really made my skin look the most luminous I’ve ever seen.

I would highly recommend this vitamin c serum. It is significantly less expensive than other vitamin c serums ($35.00 and under). It is lightweight, effective, lightening, brightening and affordable.

How does it stack up against the DHC Acerola Essence in terms of texture, finish and results ?

i want to try this line! i want either the c clarity, luminess, or ex white 2. what you recommend for someone who wants to lighten face and neck only for oily skin?

Well they are both different in that this is pure L-ascorbic acid while the DHC Acerola is acerola based (antioxidant as well).

Texture wise I would say this is more lightweight

Finish, I would say the DHC Acerola only because this one is a bit tad sticky and non moisturizing

For results I would say this one. Specifically for lightening and giving a bright glow - this one does a good job. ;)

Out of the 3 you listed, I only have used the C Clarity personally so I would recommend the Clarity. It's a fantastic vitamin c serum that is 15-20 dollars less expensive than the average vitamin c serum.

If it's your first time using pure vitamin c, I highly suggest using it every other day for the first month or so before applying it daily. It's strong but it does lighten skin. =)

Hi Mileena,

Would you suggest any of the lightening products from UNT?

The one with ChromaBright (I believe Luminess) looks amazing! The C Clarity is a good one.

This sounds good, although I didn't see any results with their Ex White 2. I only used it for two months before going to back to the Phyto +. I know they are both botanical lighteners but do you know which one is stronger? I really expected to see better results with the EX White 2 so I was a bit disappointed. Maybe I should try again since I still have over half the bottle left and it cost me 35 bucks :)

Hi Jess,

Sorry the Ex White 2 didn't work out too well. 2 months is a pretty good time to form a judgement on a product so if it wasn't lightening you by week 8 it probably won't do much else. Use the rest up either on your face, neck or body.

Are you referencing the Phyto+ and EX White 2 or the Ex White 2 and the Luminess in botanical ingredient strength? The Phyto+ has different actives than the Ex white 2 and is stronger since it has more than just one lightening agent.

The Luminess is stronger than the Ex White 2 as well =D

I was talking about the EX White 2 vs. Phyto +. For some reason I thought Ex White 2 also had botanical lighteners in it in addition to the tranexamic acid. Thanks for clearing that up :)

i think i'm going to get unt c clarity soon! i think i have been misunderstanding the brightening that comes with vitamin c. i understood it as something that just temporarily brightens your skin when you put the serum on and it goes away when you wash your face. but this isn't the case is it?

Hi Kel,

Great choice! Yeah vitamin c brightens and lightens. It lightens your skin very quickly and the instant brightening is from the actual antioxidant protection. So one can lighten up in shades with strong, effective vitamin c serum and still have that tone and glow even if the product is not on your face. :)

Aw, thank you so much. That means a lot. <333

The UNT is awesome, probably my favorite vitamin c serum because it's not so expensive and it does what it claims :)

You have mentioned that Vitamin C and Retinoids should not be used at the same time because they cancel each other out. How long should I wait in between applications? What if I use the serum for a few hours and then wash it off? Is it then okay to apply a Retinoid?

Vitamin C & retinoids together can be irritating solely due to the pH levels. You can apply the C serum first, then wait a full 15-20 mins and apply the retinoid on top. That would work.

Vitamin C works best during the day, it boosts UVB/UVA defense and prevent free radical damage (which our skin mostly is exposed to during the day or near the sun).

I went on the UNT website and was intrigued by the lip benefit product which is supposed to brighten lip color since I have some discoloration on my lips. Are you familiar with the product? Are there any other products you would recommend for lip discoloration?

Plant extracts and topical exfoliants like vitamin c (and it's derivatives) can improve the color of lips.

The UNT one looks decent. There still isn't a potent enough lip lightener out in the market. Godiva makes one but seems to get poor reviews.

hi,

would it be a good idea to use a whitening serum and a vit-c serum together? or keep them separate and use them on alternative days of each other. what would the order be after toning?

thanks!

Whatever works for you. If you can tolerate a vitamin c serum and a whitening serum together - that is excellent. That is a potent synergy. Some people don't like layering too many products at once though. If both are lightweight and work well with one another (no balling up effect when layering) then I would highly suggest using together. :)
