Black Opal Launches Brand New 'Fade Care' Line

Black Opal officially launched their new line of Fade Care products in all major drugstore chains which carry the brand. Previously, Black Opal offered fading creams and skin lighteners which contained hydroquinone. After several demands for a more sensitive skin friendly alternative, they came out with a new non-HQ version.

The new products contain a patented Bio-Affinity Skin Complex. It is a proprietary blend of botanical skin lightening extracts and soothing/calming agents to lighten and brighten sensitive skin. In a clinical study done by Black Opal, 34% of women saw visible reduction of dark spots in 14 days. As much as 50% saw a reduction in 4 weeks.

The main star of the Bio-Affinity Skin Complex is sepiwhite (Undecylenoyl Phenylalanine). It is a pretty revolutionary skin lightening ingredient derived from lipoamino acids, which lightens skin by inhibiting hormonal response to melanin production. This is the source of a lot of pigmentation formation in sensitive, highly reactive skin types that are prone to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, melasma and acne marks.

The soothing ingredients are citrus and lotus extracts.

I am actually quite impressed with this new line. I've used sepiwhite in the past and was a bit disappointed in the outcome since it sounded incredibly effective 'on paper' . The fact that more companies are formulating their skin tone correcting products with this ingredient is fantastic since it gives more choice. Prior to Black Opal, it was just Environ and Kinerase leading the way for sepiwhite. These products look great and highly concentrated.

Daily Fade Creme SPF15 Sensitive Skin Formula  - $15.95, 2oz

A rich daytime moisturizer (contains shea butter) that works to brighten your skin and protect it (?). The active sunscreen ingredients are actually unstable so I would not recommend this one at all, lol. Avobenzone and Octinoxate should never be together as they degrade/destabilize each other. Plus it looks way too emollient by all the inactive ingredients and low amount of sepiwhite.
