BeautyDiy's Skin Whitening & Skin Brightening Products!

I normally don’t do a rave for a brand of products, but after scanning through one of my favorite sites – Sasa, I discovered a wonderful Taiwanese based skin care company called BeautyDiy. I’m sure many of you already know of BeautyDiy and their impressive line of products. They feature all kinds of skin care essentials and treatments that target basic skin care, as well as skin whitening and skin brightening.

I don’t know if it’s weird, but I just love browsing for great skin lightening masks and serums. I don’t necessarily purchase them (I am very wise in my spending and have no plan on getting into debt via online shopping!) When I find great ones and I’ll be like, “Oh! I would get that!”…but I rarely ever do.

This time – it’s a different story. I just purchased a product from BeautyDiy and I am so excited to get it! I highly suggest all of you to check out the BeautyDiy line of products available through Sasa

The amazing thing is that they are all very well priced – all between the ranges of $15-25.  Some of the standout products I found:

Job's Tear & Licorice Water Brightening Treatment <-- excellent skin brightening toner

…SUCH great products!! XD

Btw I got the Job’s Tear & Licorice Water Brightening Treatment. I would love to add something like this to my routine. It’s essentially a toner, but also a mini treatment. It seems a lot of beauty gurus and skin care blogs label toners as unnecessary products. It really depends on the person and their skin care needs. Toners are like mini-treatments and are not really designed (well the ones that I pay attention to) to clean the skin. That’s what cleansers are for. Toners are leave-on mini treatments. This one happens to be an excellent brightening one. I’m excited to try it out and post my review on it!

The Alpha Arbutin Whitening Complex looks amazing. If I was lightening my skin up in shades I would definitely check that one out! *faints from the awesomeness overload!*

Hi!

Yes, unfortunately the Sofina sunscreen has been discontinued. =(

It sucks I know! It's my favorite sunscreen as well, but I've come to learn there are tons of fabulous sunscreens that are from Japan that work JUST as well as Sofina. I've received a few messages from some readers in Japan who tell me that Sofina UV Perfect Lucent isn't even on the shelves over there anymore.

It'll take time to be completely out of stock from other vendors (online, beauty shops etc.) so sites like BoboDave and BeautyKat will still carry it for a quite some time. I stocked up on like 3 Sofina's back in November, lol ;)

But...now I discovered some great new ones. My eyes are set on the Biore UV Perfect Face Milk SPF 50+ PA+++ (same protection as Sofina, and according to reviews and comments it has the EXACT same matte finish as Sofina).

:)

Hi Mileena,

I am interested in trying out the The Alpha Arbutin Whitening Complex. But when i go on the website it tells me to mix the liquid with some other DIY liquid. Can you tell me how it works? I want to lighten up in shades. Thank you.

Sofina (or any Japanese exclusive brand sunscreen) are very unpredictable in terms of how long they'll be on the shelves. I think the Sofina UV Perfect Lucent will probably still be available through online vendors at least for a couple of more months before sites like Bobodave and BeautyKat become completely out of stock.

The other Sofina sunscreens like Beauty Fresh and White Protect are still being made and no plans of being discontinued...at least for awhile.

The Beauty Fresh looks awesome actually! Have you checked online for any reviews on it?

My sunscreen of a choice for this spring/summer will be the Biore UV Perfect Milk. :)

The Biore UV Pefect Milk SPF 50+++ comes in 2 styles. A pink bottle which is slightly tinted with mica and a regular version in a white bottle. The White bottle is probably the best way to go.

Yes it's available via Bobodave - http://www.bobodave.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=174&products_id=3395

The Alpha Arbutin Whitening Complex is not a toner but more of a very intense serum-esque treatment that you can mix with toners or bland moisturizers.

It can be used alone. On it's own it's probably a very potent whitening treatment with very little inactives or emollients so cosmetically it's not as 'nice' to apply on the skin. Mixing it with one of the products they suggest (particular the toner) probably would make easy application with a cotton pad. :)

I got this ingredients list off a blogger that reviewed this toner:

purified water, butylene glycol, ethyl alcohol, coix lacryma-jobi seed extract, cucumber extract, with hazel extract, sodium hyaluronate, horse chestnut extract, sorbitan sesquioleate, sodium ascorbly phosphate, saccharide isomerate, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, potassium glycyrrhyzinate, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, fragrance.

Personally, it doesn't look that great to me in terms of whitening, but I guess it would be hydrating. What did you find so attractive about this toner? Just curious. ;)

Hi Meverllyn,

I do not know the full ingredient list, only the actives listed on Sasa.com (the product is currently GOING to be in stock soon, it sells out fast):

α-Arbutin Extract
Bearberry Extract
Scutellaria Root Extract
Mulberry Root Extract
Saxifraga Extract

Thank you for providing the ingredient list! <3

The hydrating and soothing elements of this toner are what initially got me interested in it. With the small content of vitamin c and licorice extract I may see a glow, which is just fine.

My skin is very dry, and I usually always use some type of toner. Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid just isn't cutting it in the winter season - my skin is way too dry! I needed a toner that had great ingredients and was AHA or BHA free.

After reading the ingredient list I am even more excited to use it since it looks like it will balance out some of the dryness in my skin.

On days where I am not going to work or school and stay indoors all day, I LOVE to just apply a soothing or slightly hydrating toner and put a light moisturizer (LRP Toeleraine Fluid) on my dry areas and call it a day. Giving my skin a break from constant sunscreen usage and such is important. :)

Hello again. I noticed that someone wanted the ingredients list for the alpha-arbutin complex, so here it is (I got this off the same blogger that reviewed the toner):

Purified water, bearberry (Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi) extract, alpha-arbutin, saxifraga extract, grape ferment, mulberry root extract, scutellaria root extract, disodium edetate, butylene glycol, triethanolamine, DMDM hydantoin, disodium EDTA, sodium metabisulfite.

Hello, Mileena!

First of all, thank you very much for sharing all your knowledge! you are great and I love your blog!!

Unfortunately I started my skin lightening routine before I ended up in your blog, and as a newbie, I bought products that some ppl recommended me, like Drula's wax and soap (btw what's yout opinion about Drula products?) I don't complain at all, I used to have a veeeery dry and flaky skin in my forehead and those products made a huge diference! my foreheaad skin isn't dry and flaky anymore! even if those products are for skin whitening they helped me with that problem (I saw the diference the very first time I used them).

I've been using this products fot almost 4 weeks, I must say that my face and arms (I have a very tanned arms, specially my left arm 'cause I drive a lot), and now they look whiter, BUT I noticed since I use a vitamin C serum (like a week a go when I saw your post about Vitamin C serums) the whitening process was faster.

I live in Mexico and the only Vitamin C serum I was able to buy here, was Mario Badescu's, and it cost me like 100 usd (yeah! I know it costs 45 uds, but this is México, LOL), and I thought: "Well, if it works, then it's ok, 'cause if I buy it on-line the shipping will cost a lot, and I don't know if I'll get it".

But I changed my mind when I noticed that Mario Badescu's Vitamin C serum ONLY contains 7.5% Ascorbic Acid!!! so I made a little research on eBay and I can get 2oz bottle of Skinceuticals AOX 20 even cheaper than Mario Badescu's 1oz bottle here in Mexico, and the shipping cost isn't that high.

So, I'm getting SkinCeuticals AOX 20 and Skinceuticals Phyto + (I'll follow your recomendations! :D), but I have some questions for you, I hope you can answer them: Can I use them together? and if I can, which one goes first?

This may sound weird, but I have freckles on my eyelids, which product you think I can use for that? I know the eye area is very sensitive and I don't want to hurt my eyes, hehehe.

Hugs

ah yeah, whats ur view on wind making sunscreens efficiency go down? a website stated that wind dries ur skin, making sunscreen lose the grasp. i know nothing though, but its gonna be impossible if u r on a motorbike. wind rushes all over you :D. luckily im not a model on shampoo commercials.

Hi Elsie!

Sorry for taking some time to approve and comment back - life's been crazy lately! <3

I've never tried Drula products personally but I've heard of them. I don't know the active ingredients in them but I'm guessing they are a mix of plant extracts or exfoliants. That's a pretty good first step into lightener. Not sure how potent Drula products are though. It's great that you are seeing some results though! That's always a good sign.

You can use the AOX 20 and Phyto+ together. It's best to apply the AOX 20 first since it has the lowest pH so that goes first, wait a full 2-3 minutes for absorption and apply the Phyto+ on top. With vitamin c (especially at 20%)can be used every 3 days or so (vitamin c stays in the lower levels of the skin for up to 3 days) so daily application is not required and probably not recommended since it is very strong.

Freckles on the eyelids are common. Usually regular lighteners like Phyto+ should fade them. AOX 20 will be too much for your eye area so avoid applying it there. If you want to try to see if your eyelids can handle vitamin c, apply very little (tapping in) every 3-4 days. Not daily. Phyto+ would work better for eyelids though. It does for me ;)

Best of luck!

@Randy Sometimes less is more. That is why I never moisturize all over, only on areas that feel dry. Sometimes on my days off I take a break from all skin care and just cleanse. If my skin feels balanced afterwards (no dryness or tightness) I just leave it alone. No products.

:)

@Randy - LOL!

Most elements like wind and sun affect sunscreen but if applied correctly (1/4 teaspoon on face) and it's stable it should withstand it. Plus it's best if the sunscreen isn't so greasy so it doesn't migrate on your face (I found many US brand sunscreens do this and always creep into my eyes, ugh! that's why I always stick with Japanese sunscreens).

hey mileena! there is a sunscreen i wanted to buy. could you please tell me what the ppd of a sunscreen consisting of 6& zinc oxide and 6% titanium oxide would be?? i only know that is has an spf of 30 but it doesn't list the ppd. if you had an estimate, that would be great! thanks!!

February 4, 2011 at 11:14 AM
Blogger Mileena said...

Hi!

It would be a PPD of 5 or 5.6. Not too bad for a completely physical ingredient sunblock.

Btw just in case you wanted to know I calculated that - I used the Sunscreen Simulator by BASF. Awesome site, sign up and select all filters and plug in the % per ingredient and you'll get the PPD rating:

Hi Mileena

I am on look out for a good oil-free light moisturizer, i had been using LRP tolerian fluid but i felt it was a lil expensive...so ...after some research i came across 2 products that might cater to my needs Alba Aloe and Green Tea Oil free Moisturizer and H2O Face Oasis Ultra Hydrator, can u kindly suggest one of them or anything that's not so expensive and available on the shelves.

Secondly, i use Vit C 20% DIY mask , how long should i wait before applying my moisturizer and also which one should go first the Vit C or Moisturizer.

Thanks.

Hi,

I just checked out the ingredients for the H20 Face Oasis Ultra Hydrator and I would not recommend that one. Firstly it's bit pricey and second the amount emollients in there are very few and too weak to moisturize well. Not the best inactive ingredients for a simple moisturizer IMO.

An oil-free moisturizer really doesn't mean anything because there are other skin ingredients that can cause clogged pores or irritation bumps. The Alba Aloe Green Tea does look good and would suggest the one over the H20 Face Oasis.

My fav. moisturizers (aside from LRP): Clinique DDML Oily Skin, Nivea Q10 (great price, great one), Eucerin Q10 Sensitive Skin and for the longest time I loved Paulas Choice Skin Recovery. But the Nivea and Eucerin are great non-expensive ones.

As for as after the mask, you can apply your moisturizer immediately after. The only time you wouldn't is if the active ingredients in the moisturizer are niacinamide or AHA to avoid irritation.

:)
