Product Recommendation – Belo Essentials Whitening Products

If you have ever roamed the aisles of an Asian beauty store, or a Filipino drugstore or shop you may have come across the Belo Essentials line of skin whitening products.

Belo Essentials is a very popular Filipino brand that sells cleansers, toners, pills, day creams, night creams, soaps and body lotions that promise to fade dark spot, lighten the overall skin tone and give a ‘star white glow’.

As with many skin lightening lines, it does propose unrealistic promises like lightening the skin half a shade lighter overnight and then reaching full results by seven days. It’s best to ignore these claims since they are solely for marketing…and believe it or not, MANY people fall for this, end up getting disappointed and subsequently just give up.

Belo Essentials is a prime example of false marketing

The formula for the Belo Essentials whitening products has changed over the years. Currently the products lighten skin via DermaWhite Plus. This is basically a synergy of kojic acid, glutathione and gigawhite. Gigawhite personally is one of the most effective ingredients on my skin and it seems any lightener that contains it at the right amount (5%) gives me amazing results very quickly. For those who do not know – gigawhite is basically a name for a combination of 7 Alpine plant extracts which are proven through many studies to lighten skin.

To be honest, the presence of gigawhite is the only reason why I kept an interest in these products. While kojic acid is very effective, the glutathinone will most likely be substandard in terms of giving results. There is no solid research proving that topical application of glutathione can offer the same amount of antioxidant surge that the IV method can. Still, I guess people can argue that it can offer some antioxidant properties which I am not disagreeing with at all, but it’s certainly not the star ingredient.

The effect of these 3 ingredients is still very efficient as they impact the pigmentation cycle at two points – tyrosinase inhibition (kojic acid) and the halting of melanin transfer to surface of the skin (gigawhite).

I don’t have access to the full ingredients for any of the products in the range, so I don’t know the strength of the active ingredients. I have e-mailed the company and will post the ingredients as soon as I get them.
With most of these kinds of skin lightening lines (like Vichy Bi White), using several products within the range does offer better results.
