Exfoliants To Help Strengthen & Speed Up Skin Lightening

Exfoliation is one of the key elements in successfully lightening your skin. A significant effect on melanin production can only happen if old, dead cells are sloughed off regularily to allow new, less pigmented cells to emerge. Aside from this, it ensures an even complexion (no blotchiness, uneven spots) as well as increases the efficacy of any skin lightener.

As noted in Breaking Out Of  A Skin Lightening Plateau, introducing excellent, gentle exfoliants in your regimen can really be that extra push, or in many cases the saving grace of a skin lightening regimen. The type of exfoliants out there really run the gamut, and it really doesn't matter which one you use, as long as it works with your skin and doesn't cause irritation.

Throughout this blog, I have recommended some great exfoliant products: Peels, microdermabrasions, rx retinoids, AHA products, BHA products, masks etc. I've already done a concise list before - Potent Essentials & Skin Lighteners but this post focuses on exfoliants. Below are a list of my favorite exfoliants. All of these are fantastic IMO, and can be incorporated into your regimen. Refer to this list whenever you are shopping for an exfoliant product:

Makeupartistchoice 40% Lactic Acid Peel + Licorice Extract

Juice Organics Apple Exfoliating Peel

Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion + Peel Kit

Retin-A Gel or Tazorac Gel or Differin Gel

Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid

The Body Shop Vitamin C Micro-Refiner

AmLactin Body Lotion

DDF Brightening Cleanser

ProActiv Deep Cleansing Wash

Alba Botanica Papaya Enzyme Facial Mask

Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Scrub

Neostrata Toning Solution 8% AHA

Luffas

Texturized Scrubbing Gloves

I'll be introducing a new little feature on the blog hopefully in the next couple of days, that gives you all a heads up on great deals that will save you money on products like these (i.e. Juice Organics, DDF, Olay Peel etc.). It's from http://www.giveawayscout.com/, and I was just recently informed of them. I'm pretty excited about it since it offers giveaways and deals on GOOD products
=)

Hi! Great Post!

What do you think of the Tonique 10x Gel? I have heard that it's very effective but then i heard it's loaded with steriods! the ingredient list doesnt say this. however the website looks a bit dodgy..

have u heard of this product? it's meant to be oil free and effective. cost is not an issue for me

Hi ;)

Yes I know of the Tonique 10x Gel. It's been a topic of discussion over at the Bright Skin Forum (message board I moderate) for some time. I never heard of the products containing steroids - I highly doubt this since Amber (the adminstrator of the Bright Skin Forum) promotes the Tonique products on her site and would never promote steroids based lighteners.

With that said, I can say that from this blog I've gotten many messages from readers about their experiences with the Tonique Gel. Apparently it's either useless or causes irritation. I don't think the potency (or perhaps pH) of the active ingredients is right. Very few lighteners get it right, and that is why a lot of products yield poor results because they just aren't forumlated properly.

If you are interested in trying a sepiwhite product (Tonique uses sepiwhite) I would suggest looking into Kinerase's Photofacial line OR Fair & Flawless, which I have heard some success stories from. Other than that, the other sepiwhite product out there (Environ) which I tried is not worth it IMO. =)

Hi Mileena!

What do you think about the Neostrata Toning Solution Level 1 and 2? I'm on the line between which one to buy -- level 2 sounds a tad bit scary and irritating, but it does seem effective!

Hi! Oh I LOVE the Neostrata Toning Solution! I have the Level 2 which is a bit strong but works very well. The Level 1 is fantastic as well and is probably best for more sensitive skin types. My skin has become so tough these days I can withstand some tough stuff.

The Level 1 is a good place to start, I highly recommend it since it works amazingly at getting rid of the even most pesky pimples that Retin-A can't prevent. :O)
