Product Recommendation - Makeupartistschoice 25% Mandelic Acid Peel

Photo Credit: Makeupartistschoice

Ever since starting this skin lightening blog, I have learned so much not only about treating various pigmentation concerns but about skin care in general.  I will be honest in that I used to only answer questions and e-mails solely on the topic of skin lightening, and would refrain from giving any advice or information in regards to other skin related issues. But lately I’ve really expanded my horizons as a blogger or researcher if you will and decided to educate myself more in the treatment of acne, rosacea and psoriasis.

This particular blog I am writing is a recommendation not just for skin lightening but for acne treatment.

I love alpha hydroxy acid peels – they are probably my favorite method of exfoliation because they work so well at penetrating deep into the skin and exfoliating all the dead skin cells and debris in the epidermal layer. In recent years, mandelic acid has become one of the leading AHAs to use for sensitive, acne prone skin types.

Mandelic acid’s molecular structure is larger than that of other alpha hydroxyl acids like glycolic acid and lactic acid. The larger molecular structure allows for a slower penetration to the skin’s surface which greatly reduces the amount of irritation that is so common in alpha hydroxyl acid peels.

Mandelic acid is highly effective at exfoliating the skin, and trumps lactic acid in terms of delivering both exfoliation power as well as the least amount of irritation. Irritation can lead to all kinds of issues with those with acne, rosacea or are prone to post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (further darkening). Choosing a peel that is both effective yet gentle is key.

Aside from being gentle, it has been proven to work exceptionally well against blackheads (peels in general allow for easier extraction of blackheads), has antimicrobial/antibacterial properties, as well as melanin inhibition abilities. Similarly to lactic acid, mandelic acid not only aids in lightening and evening of the skin tone by epidermal exfoliation but also inhibits tyrosinase. With consistent use, a mandelic acid peel can do wonders for sun damaged skin, brown spots and freckles.

I have been scouring the internet for great mandelic acid products for awhile and I already blogged about the M2 Refinish line (formerly known as MaMa Lotion). However, I believe the Makeupartistchoice’s 25% Mandelic Acid peel is the real gem! This fantastic peel has been garnering a lot of praise amongst acne prone and sensitive skin types. I had to post it here because if you are in the market for a peel, and you have sensitive, acne prone or hyperpigmentation prone skin, then this mandelic acid peel can be the perfect weekly peel for you.

I’ve mentioned time and time again that consistent usage of a peel can really make a huge difference in your skin. I use Retin-A gel as well as BHA and I still find that those two do not give me the radiance, brightness, evenness and smooth, clear complexion that I get from using a great alpha hydroxyl acid peel.

I have also read that many people with Folliculitis, specifically Pityrosporum Folliculitis can greatly benefit from the use of mandelic acid, especially strong mandelic acid peels.

Makeupartistchoice.com offers amazing products – some of the best in the skin care field. The 25% Mandelic Acid Peel runs for a reasonable price - $29.95 for a 2oz bottle. It is worth it if you are looking for a peel and don’t want to use something as irritating as glycolic acid.

Ingredients:
Purified water, mandelic acid, SD alcohol, witch hazel distillate, propylene glycol, malic acid, butylene glycol, hydropropylcellulose, green tea extract, hops, horsetail plant, lemongrass, goldenseal.

Really helpful recommendations!:) Been looking for a new acne controlling product because using Ole Henriksen before was a bit pricey to me just for acne control. Also stumbled across your previous recommendations for Paula's Choice BHA liquid...I want to check that out as well.:) Love this blog!

I personally use a lactic acid peel (by Makeupartistschoice) and I love it!!! I wouldn't give it up for anything since it does an amazing job at making my skin clear and just glowing. It has licorice extract in the solution as well so it's great at lightening and breaking up hyperpigmentation.

If you have acne, sensitive skin or melasma I would opt for the mandelic acid peel. It's a huge hit...I've read over like 50 different positive reviews and comments on message boards. I might give it a go, but right now acne is not a concern of mine which is why I am sticking with the lactic acid. Plus my skin is quite resilient from years of using strong products that my protective barrier has built tolerance to harsh AHAs, and alcohol based retinoid gels.

If you are novice to peels or have active acne or sensitive skin, by all means go for the 25% mandelic acid which works differently than lactic acid (more gentle, has melanin suppression abilities on its own, great for all forms of acne). :)

@Thu
Thank you Thu! <3

The PC 2% BHA Liquid was a holy grail of mine when I used to break out a lot. My acne is under control, but I ALWAYS use it a few days prior to getting my period or while I'm on it to prevent breakouts and it does an excellent job. It's the best BHA product out there hands down because the pH is absolutely correct for optimal penetration into the skin. Mostly all the others (Neutrogena, Clean & Clear etc.) do not carry the right pH for complete absorption.

Hey! I just realized an intriguing thing. U knw, ponds has 2 ranges in d lightening field: white beauty n flawless white. Just hours ago did i recheck d ingredient of em and i felt like oh my gosh! Their ingredients arent different from each other! I daresay theyre just twins. Even, their niacinamide is in d 4th row. Fw states d percentage though (3%) but since wb's niacinamide is in d same position, i assume they arent differemt. How funny. D VAO-B3 -which is vitE, allantoin, and optics-powered niacinamide- is present in wb too! I assume they have d same ingredient though wb doesnt state d percentage and use d name vao-b3. The difference between them is dat wb has lycopene fw doesnt. Phew, i (we!) have been cheated... Luckily i love reading ingredients. Despite all of that, i still want to purchase fw antispot intensive whitening serum whose niacinamide is just 1% :) it says it just adds d power so it should be 4%. Im so scared if ppl have to pay more money for a range with the same ingredient as the lower range--d difference comes solely from d packaging... so sad.

I don't have a review of it (yet!) but I do have a review of the lactic acid MUAC peel which is a holy grail product of mine.

I might test drive the mandelic acid next week. I'll buy the sample size and see how it goes. But one application really can't form a proper judgment.

Who knows...I might switch from lactic acid (which works very well on my skin so I don't feel like switching around at the moment) to mandelic acid in the future. In the meantime, there are TONS of great reviews found onlien if you just google MUAC's 25% Mandelic Acid Peel.

:)

@Randy

Very true Randy! Most skin lightening product lines are weak since an entire line is dedicated to achieving one thing, when all you need is just one really well formulated essence/serum with perfect %'s of the right active ingredients.

But some lines *do* begin to show some visible results when you use all the products in their range. It's probably due to combination of using all the products which has pretty much the same ingredients. Eventually overtime that does have an effect. All active ingredients (hence the word active) have *some* effect on the skin.
