Product Review - Kuan Yuan Lian Cucumber Whitening Mask

I have been using this lovely little mask by the Taiwanese skin care company, Kuan Yuan Lian for about a month now and I love what I’ve been seeing. It is a skin whitening mask that is in a paper sheet style that you place on your face.

It is both hydrating and skin lightening. The ingredients are all listed in Taiwanese, but I searched the internet to see if I could find some translation of the active ingredients.

I managed to find it. The ingredients are a mix of botanical extracts and antioxidants:

Arbutin
Japanese camellia extract
Peony (a plant extract known to have skin lightening abilities)
Cucumber
White Tea Extract
Hyaluronic Acid

There is no doubt that this mask has some fantastic ingredients. Masks in general are very potent which is why they give such strong instantaneous results. This particular mask is really strong and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive since it is soothing and anti-inflammatory.

It comes in a pack of 6 sheets that are saturated in the skin whitening serum (all those active ingredients). I don’t use the paper masks. Instead what I do is squeeze the serum out of the masks into a clean, empty skin cream jar. It can also be one of those spray bottles as well, or a dropper bottle. One mask contains enough serum to last up to 3 applications. Therefore for the 6 sheet masks, you are getting about 18 treatments out of this.

It’s a pretty nifty and convenient way to get the most out of these paper sheet style masks. Also, they never seem to fit my face properly anyway. I don’t think they fit anyone’s face perfectly =P

You can use your (clean) fingertips to apply it directly to your face, or use a toner pad to swipe it across your face. Either way works.

I apply it with my fingertips on clean, bare skin. I leave it on for about 30 minutes. I should not that I do these in the evening, but sometimes in the morning if I have time. Generally at least 20-30 minutes is needed with this mask so pick the right time for you. Using masks should be relaxing and soothing.

There is a slight herbal fragrance in this mask that is not overwhelming. In fact, it’s quite nice and fresh. The serum itself is a bit sticky, but most of these potent serums found in masks are.

It can be used all night, or for several hours. The longer you have it on your skin – the better.

After the 30 minutes are up, I rinse it off with warm water and then follow up with a few splashes of cool water. I pat dry and use my products accordingly.

If you have any mineral or thermal spa water like the ones from La Roche Posay or Vichy – you can spritz those on your skin to gently wash away the serum. Or you can leave the serum on your face; however it’s a bit sticky so using it at night is ideal if you want to leave it on.

The results are great. It instantly gives the skin a lighter appearance and softens the skin so well. My skin feels like silk afterwards. It’s definitely facilitating in the overall lightening of my face. It also works to quench any dry spots because of the hyaluronic acid. My skin is glowing, visibly brighter, smoother and hydrated after every usage.

This is the perfect skin lightening mask for the upcoming colder months.

I wouldn’t say it’s as good as the Kose Sekkisei Mask, but it’s definitely a close second. I think what’s most attractive about it is the price. Over at BoBoDave, it is only $1.58! That is SUCH a deal!

Honestly this mask is worth at least a try, for only a dollar you are getting 18 treatments (if you follow my method) and it has great ingredients that do lighten and improve the look of the skin.

The Kuan Yuan Lian Cucumber Skin Whitening Mask is a top seller over at BoBoDave, and it’s one of my favorites now.

I hate to say it but I have these and am fluent in the language. The key ingredients are hydrogen peroxide, hyaluronic acid and peony. And some other things that you haven't listed...

The effect is v nice but sadly too damaging for me :(

I ordered these from bobodave but they only gave me 6 masks when I paid for 6 boxes? or are they 2 dollars a mask?

& also, they tend to dry up on my skin in a couple of minutes (cause your method sounded more appealing). is it suppose to do that? are there still any effects left when it dries?

I believe it's 2 dollars per mask.

Yes it does dry rather quickly. The dryness is normal, the key is to let it sit on your skin for at least 15-20 minutes. Rinse off and apply your serum or follow-up products.
